My first ever blog post was just after my preop appointment for my first ACL reconstruction in March 2005. That one was for my right knee. My next knee surgery was 2 years later in March 2007, this time for my left knee. And know just 4 short years later, I’m getting my right knee done again. I reinjured my right knee a year and a half ago, but I’ve been playing soccer and skiing with what I call my brace-CL. Its done a good job, but its finally come time to get back onto the pitch without a brace. Hopefully this time for good.
After talking with Dr. Stephen Paul about my options for a graft, he thinks the patella tendon is the strongest. For this one, they take the middle part of your patella tendon along with a block of bone at the attachment points. It is considered strongest since it is bone to bone healing. It is also the most painful because they carve out part of the bone. I’m guessing I can deal with a bit of pain if it means playing soccer again.
