Skiing Day One

February 26th, 2009

After the 45 degree day here yesterday and 70 degrees in Denver, I thought for sure we’d be dealing with declining ski conditions all week.  That fear was proven unfounded this morning when we woke up this morning to a steady snowfall that only got heavier as the day progressed.  By lunchtime it was nearly white out conditions.  By the afternoon it finally broke a bit and allowed the sun to pour through.

The middle of the week in late February is not the time to ski if you like long ski lines.  Much to our dismay, we whisked through lift lines of 4 to 6 people all day long.

After a full day of skiing, we soaked our jelly legs in the hot tub until we looked like the actors from the movie Cocoon.  We concluded the day with delicious dinner and drinks at The Dam Brewery in Dillon, CO.  Its now 8:30pm and I think most of us are about ready for bed…..

Let's Ski!

February 25th, 2009

Somehow my skis have not been out of the garage this entire winter.  It can be attributed equally to work, soccer and not wanting to face I-70 weekend traffic.  Thankfully I have a Dad and Uncle who love to ski and manage to make the yearly pilgrimage out here for a week.

That week starts today.  I picked them up this morning at 10am from DIA and we headed West towards the mountains.  Not before we detoured into Denver to hit up Denver’s oldest bar for beer, Bloody Marys, burger and fries.

After lunch we drove straight to Copper Mountain with a stop at the Continental Divide for a photo op.  This is normally a very cold photo to take, but today it was t-shirt weather on the pass.  Our accomodations this year could hardly be closer to the lifts.  We’re “maybe” 50 yards from the East Village lifts.  It should be a pretty amazing week!
