Puppy dog eyes
I’ve been playing around with my new camera equipment and I’ve been having tons of fun with my new flashes. I haven’t learned much outside of the basics yet, but I’m amazed at how much difference and off camera flash makes in the quality of my photos. Tonight I took this one of Sadie with the flash bounced off to the left. How can a 6 year old dog still have puppy dog eyes?

Button Rock Hike with new camera
After trying several compact digital cameras and never being able to get the type of photos I was striving for, I finally broke down and reinvested in a DSLR. After lots and lots of research and very complex financial calculations, I decided to purchase the Nikon D90. My first choice was the Canon 5D Mark II, but for the price of the body alone I could get the D90 with several lenses, flashes and software. I figured I’d go for the cheaper body, learn how to be a better photographer and then I might be able to justify a more expensive setup.
My first photographic outing was on a hike that Jess and I did last weekend to Button Rock Reservoir outside of Lyons. Jess was very patient with me as I took about a billion photogrphs with three different lenses. I don’t know if any of these made the cover, but I came away with a few decent shots.

Wildfires in Boulder County
Its a strange feeling to look out your front window and see the hills outside your window completely engulfed in flames…very strange indeed. Yesterday I looked out my front window only to find the hills outside completely engulfed in flames. The 50 mile per hour winds blowing East from the foothills had knocked over a power line north of us and the fierce winds spread the fire like….wild fire. The news reported that 11,000 people were evacuated from Boulder County. The evacuation stopped one block North of us, so we were able to stay put. This morning the entire area smelled like a campfire. I certainly hope that people to the North of us are OK.

A magical evening
In hopes of creating an unforgettable New Year’s Eve, we at Wild Sage decided to throw a Prom. At this year’s Prom, no detail was missed. We had corsages, make-shift tuxedos, real tuxedos, poofy dresses, elegant dresses and Jess constructed an absolutely amazing balloon arch for the photo backdrop. After lots and lots of alcohol, people turned on the arch though and destroyed it. I guess everything beautiful must die at some point. I would like to thank my date Jess for a wonderful evening of dancing, snacking and drinking. Despite it being blue skies and sunny outside, my first morning of 2009 was a bit foggy.
